REASONS TO GO SOLAR
- Reduce costs: Whether you’re a homeowner or business owner electricity makes up a large part of your monthly bills. A solar system allows you to drastically reduce or eliminate this cost.
- Protect against rising energy costs: Electricity costs are on the rise. On average home electricity rates rise 3% per year. By installing a solar system today you protect yourself against rapid and unexpected electricity cost increases.
- Increase property value: Numerous studies have found homes equip with solar systems have higher property values and sell faster than non-equipped homes.
- Great investment: We typically size and price the systems we install to payoff with in 4-5 years. From that point on you’re getting free power.
- Protect the environment: A solar system is a mini power plant that produces power without polluting. This means a reduction of CO2 emissions and less reliance on fossil fuels.
HOW IT ALL WORKS
A solar system works by converting the Sun’s photons unto usable energy. There’s a couple of key components that make it all work.
Solar Panels
Solar modules or solar panels are the biggest and most important components of any solar system. The solar panels are designed to capture photons from sunlight and converts them into direct current electricity. All panels that we supply come with a 25 year warranty.
Inverters
Direct current electricity travels through wire from the solar panel to the inverter. The inverter converts DC electricity to AC electricity, which, your home needs to run. Inverters are typically mounted out of the direct elements. All inverters we supply come with a 25 year warranty.
Racking
Solar racking provides the connection from the panels to the roof, as well as providing structure for the solar panels to sit on. All the racking we provide comes in aluminum or stainless with a life expectancy of 25+ years.
Monitoring
Solar monitoring system provides historical and real time data on what your solar system is producing. The monitoring system is typically connected to the internet allowing the data to be accessed from anywhere in the world. In the unlikely event a system failure should occur it can be caught quickly and fixed because the monitoring device.
Grid Tied Solar
Grid tied solar systems are the most common and cost effective way to reduce electricity costs. These installations feature zero batteries and only operate when grid power (BEC) is on.
Electricity from the solar system will travel into your breaker panel, feeding all the electrical loads in the house. Excess electricity is then push back into the grid. A smart meter monitors the amount of electricity pushed back and every month you’ll receive a credit. Currently BPL is only crediting the fuel surcharge, generally $.15-$.20 per kWh.
Since only the fuel surcharge is being credited for power pushed back it is essential that the solar system is sized properly. We take care of this step for all our customers ensuring quick returns and maximum benefit.
Off Grid Solar Systems
Off grid solar systems are used when grid power is unavailable or when a customer wants greater energy freedom. They’re ideal for those that are willing to be energy efficient.
Off grid systems utilize solar and batteries to provide ALL of your electrical needs. The more electricity you consume the large and more costly the solar and battery bank will need to be.
Off grid systems require more equipment and thus are more expensive than grid tied. Extra equipment includes; battery bank, charge controller, DC disconnect, and off grid inverters.
Hybrid Solar Systems
Hybrid solar systems utilize solar power, grid power, and battery power. These systems are more expensive than grid tied, but less expensive than off grid.
Hybrid systems store excess power in a battery bank (often smaller than off grid) ensuring customers get the full cost per kWh. In the event of an outage the batteries can take over and power your home.
